UBC: Music School Recital Hall

Location: Vancouver, BC
Year: 2010
Value: $650,000 (not including equipment)

OVERVIEW
The COLBORNE ARCHITECTURAL GROUP Pacific was commissioned by UBC School of
Music and the Arts Development Office representing a private donor to carry out
refurbishment of the School’s 272 seat Recital Hall with less than ideal acoustics. Scope
included an expanded stage area, re-design of the stage ‘shell’ to better direct sound
into the Hall along with upgraded stage lighting, AV systems and refurbished finishes.
Seating was removed to accommodate the expanded stage leaving new 255 seats with
accessible seating at the rear. The existing Control Room was re-designed for the new
recording, sound and lighting systems. Improvements were deemed successful by students and Faculty with the Hall continuing its role as a prime performance venue at UBC.
