OVERVIEW

Currently finishing construction, this project for City of Vancouver Facilities Planning involves retrofit of a c. 1912 three-storey wood frame building adjacent to the Vancouver East Cultural Centre. Serving local arts groups, the building has been vacant since 2013 due to a badly deteriorated roof, interior finishes and services. The limited budget retrofit will involve full roof replacement, improvements to building envelope, exterior stairs and finishes as well as interior functional improvements including rehearsal space improvements along with updated office space, kitchens and washrooms to serve a variety of rental tenants. New fire sprinklers are added as well as mechanical & electrical services upgraded to achieve more efficient building operations. While not a designated a ‘heritage’ building, the design respects and retains key built elements in the 103 year old structure as well as improving access and the ‘public realm’ at grade.
