OVERVIEW
The COLBORNE ARCHITECTURAL GROUP Pacific was commissioned by the City of Vancouver’s Fire and Rescue Service to provide architectural services for their new postdisaster storage warehouse, located at the VF&RS training and works yard. The new facility is comprised of systems-built warehouse structure, with a smaller custom annex containing washrooms and service rooms abutting it on the north side. Significant effort went into creating an architectural expression for the building using the ‘kit of parts’ available from the manufacturers, since the facility is large and can be viewed from the nearby SkyTrain line. Natural light is provided in the warehouse using translucent fiberglass panels within the roof system, allowing daylight while providing thermal insulating value.
