Xstrata Technology Offices

LOCATION: Vancouver, B.C.
YEAR: 2008
VALUE: $450,000

OVERVIEW
Following successful design of Xstrata Technology’s first Vancouver offices in 2008, the international mining technology company approached CAGP to develop expanded offices for a full floor (10,000 sf) in a central downtown high-rise building. The new space carries over several of the design elements from the original offices, including muted tones and extensive use of natural wood elements but, in particular, the prominent use of a highly coloured/ textured slate tile evoking Xstrata’s primary business of mineral extraction. Some elements of the existing tenanted space are kept for practical, cost-saving reasons but most finishes are up-dated. The main Elevator Lobby, Reception Area and Meeting Rooms are designed with new lighting, signage and presentation capabilities. A ‘Technology Display’ room is created off Reception for changing information exhibits. A new, open, employee-friendly Kitchen/ Eating area is created to foster staff interaction with a shower room to encourage bike riders and a separate ‘Library’ with lounge is introduced for informal research and relaxation. CAGP also coordinated furniture selection.
