Watershed Park covers 350 acres of heavily forested escarpment
lands in North Delta sitting above the coastal plain to the southwest. Within
a master plan developed by landscape architects Christopher Phillips & Associates,
the Colborne Architectural Group Pacific Inc. was retained to design two pavilion
buildings for the park; one at a park entry point and one to service a Scout
Camp area.
These buildings are designed to be expressive of their wooded setting. Heavy
timber log columns support robust timber beams and exposed roof framing. A large
stone fireplace and chimney forms a pivotal centre point for the Scout pavilion.
Walls at lower levels are split-faced concrete block, with some stone detailing;
rough-sawn board and batten siding is located in gable areas.
The entry pavilion, located adjacent to a small parking area, incorporates a
covered path with interpretive displays and directional signage. Both buildings
incorporate composting toilet systems due to their remoteness from municipal
services. Composters are located in a basement level and require only a simple
maintenance program to be administered by the Scouts.
