The Vancouver School Board commissioned The Colborne Architectural Group Pacific to design a major seismic and general upgrade to this large secondary school (330,000 sq ft). Five separate heritage-designated buildings are involved in the project. Major system and functional upgrades are also included in the project scope. A number of classroom and shop areas are being relocated or replaced in order to consolidate school functions within a smaller operational footprint. The school auditorium is also undergoing a major upgrade.
The work is being phased in over several years, beginning in July 2005 with Phase 1: the technical shops building. Construction work on Phase 2: the main academic block and auditorium commenced in summer 2006, with final completion targeted for August 2008.
Estimated construction value:
Phase 1: $9 million; Phase 2: $30 million
