The Colborne Architectural Group, in collaboration with Architectura,
is currently engaged in the design of the fit-out for TechBC's permanent campus
at Surrey Place. This work encompasses tenant improvements for 42,000 m2 (450,000
sq. ft.) of long-term leased space which is part of an extensive mixed-use addition
to the existing Surrey Place Mall complex. Within this area, approximately 26,320
NASM is assigned to accommodate an initial student capacity of 2800 FTE supported
by a staffing level of 730 FTE. Teaching spaces include a large number of computer
labs, some specialty presentation rooms and design studios. Multi-media production
and post-production facilities are also an important part of the teaching spaces.
Teaching, research and administrative staff are grouped into activity clusters
to encourage interdisciplinary collaboration and support. A major objective
of the planning for these spaces is to allow for a high degree of flexibility
in order to respond to future change. A highly-responsive connectivity system
is pre-planned; access flooring is used throughout; open planning allows for
easy re-organization of workgroups. Casual interaction is encouraged through
lounge and study areas fronting on major circulation routes.
Expected completion: May 2003.
