SFU Teaching Facilities

Since 1995 The Colborne Architectural Group has carried out planning and design of academic facilities for various SFU Departments in the Sciences and Humanities including Linguistics, Math, Physics, Psychology, the School of Communications and renovations for the Main Library. Typically, projects involve renovation of existing buildings and range from the creation of straight-forward teaching labs and administrative areas to seminar and thesis defense facilities or more specialized assignments such as a video conference room for the Psychology Department or conference and technical facilities for Academic Computing Services.

All projects require close liaison between the design team, academic user representatives and the SFU Facilities Management Office. In addition to design and construction review services, we are responsible for the selection of colours, finishes and furniture coordination. Building Code and mechanical-electrical upgrades are paramount in all facilities. Budgets are normally very tight, requiring that designers focus on delivering functional, flexible and durable built facilities. Typical construction budgets, $150 - $250K.
