This project involves complete renovation of an existing 2,400 sf science teaching lab with preparation / support rooms required by SFU's Department of Chemistry to support new undergraduate teaching program. Dating from the early 1970's, the existing 60-person lab was to be reorganized to accommodate 80 students using state-of-the-art individualized aspirators and fume extraction system, replacing several, older fume hoods.

The space was completely demolished back to base structure and refurbished with all new finishes and modular lab benches designed by CAGP. New mechanical systems were installed to suit the individualized lab services as were new electrical and data systems to lab benches along with new multiple-configuration lighting. A major objective in the new design was to have all work stations with a clear view to the central instructor's station and computer projection screen which required careful coordination of lab bench shelving and services. The new lab also incorporates benches and sinks for persons with disabilities.
