ISSUES
People are often convinced that Architects are only interested in the design
of a building's exterior and the technical issues associated with this.
In fact, architects are usually drawn to solving any design problem
whether it is building-related, furniture or industrial design, siting
and landscape issues but certainly including the creation of successful
interior spaces.
Architectural design for interiors includes space planning, concept
development, detailed design and the careful coordination of building
services just as with the building shell. With interiors however, additional
considerations must be brought to bear including interior construction
and detailing, selection of finishes, colours and the integration of
millwork, furniture systems and special equipment. The design challenge
remains the same for interior space as for the building itself - how
to best create functional, flexible space with a distinctive, appropriate
image and within the budget constraints of the project.
