Hidden Valley Townhouses

Part of the general redevelopment of Hidden Valley Resort was the construction of 64 stacked townhouse condominium units on a parcel of land immediately adjacent to an established hotel. In addition to a unique site which offers both winter skiing and summer watersports, the townhouse units benefit from direct access to all hotel amenities including restaurant, conference and recreation facilities.

The site has a moderate slope to Penninsula Lake which was used to advantage in stepping the buildings to achieve prime views from all units. The client-requested 'alpine' character of the townhouses is reinterpreted in a more modern idiom using steep pitched shed roofs and chimney elements, large window dormers with long balconies off of upper level living areas. Bright red painted door and large pane window frames contrast sharply with dark stained siding and soft grey shingle roof finish give a distinctive appearance to the complex of paired units. Unit sizes range from 600 sq. ft. one bedrooms to 1,580 sq. ft. three storey homes. All units feature wood burning fireplaces incorporated into open plan concepts. Construction cost, $6.9M, 1990.
