In this project, the existing cafeteria at Eagle Ridge Hospital
was expanded to provide additional seating capacity and to accommodate a new
servery area. The alterations included extending the dining area out under an
existing soffit, to bring the tables closer to the garden with an increased
level of natural light. The front wall steps back under the soffit to retain
covered space for use of outdoor tables in wet weather. Seating capacity is
thus increased to 150 seats.
The existing linear servery has been modified into a scramble servery arrangement.
Self-service salad and sandwich bars are accommodated, with new lighting and
menu boards providing for a colourful, friendly food display. The long wall
from the entry area to the dining room is used for the display of art work on
a rotating show basis. Planning of the servery and cafeteria modifications incorporates
a phasing plan and the use of a temporary servery to allow continuous operation
during the construction period.
The project was completed in 1995 at a cost of $290,000.
