The Simon Fraser Health Region retained the Colborne Group to design an expansion of the existing Cardiac Catherization lab at Royal Columbian Hospital in order to double the annual procedure capacity. A new treatment room and second diagnostic machine was added and the existing suite of rooms was upgraded. New patient holding areas, control room and support spaces were also included. Total project area was 2,500 sq. ft. The project required careful coordination related to the installation of sophisticated medical diagnostic equipment. Construction was carefully phased as the facility had to remain in operation throughout the renovation process. Construction cost was $450,000; the project was completed in 1999.
